  1. The Library received a grant from the MidHudson Library System to provide a workshop for teens and for additional teen staff to help in the teen section. S is here to help us to organize and present a manga collection. And there will be a manga drawing workshop for teens on August 19th and 20th from 1 30 - 330 PM

Here is S's latest post on her manga collection progress...

    Day 1: 1-3 PM
Today I got to the library at 1 PM, and the first thing I did was, after making sure my consent note was in, hang up flyers in town for our Teen and Tween Maga Workshop. When I got back from that, I sorted through some new Manga books that were donated to the library. This was great because I love manga! I figured out how many copies were already in the Library system of each book, and included this info with a little bit about each book, and some tidbits of info about manga in general. It was cool!

    Day 2: 1-3 PM
Today I worked on the manga information sheet. I made a chart about how manga is rated, and put together some graphics to show the right way to read manga. It’s looking great so far, it should be done pretty soon! I checked my facts with Google, and used some other information I found there, as well. It’s gonna look great when it’s finished! I just hope I can compress it enough to make it one page long...

    Day 4: 1-3 PM
When I got to the library this afternoon, the first thing I did was finish up the flyers for the Summer Reading End-Of-Summer Ice Cream Party, and the sheet that will come with the flyers for the kids to fill out about their favorite book. After I printed out some copies, I distributed some in town. When I got back, I restocked the shelves a little bit, with some books and DVDs. It was a busy day, but I enjoyed it a lot!

    Day 5: 1-3 PM
When I got to the library I started out the day by doing a few odd jobs, like organizing the books on the New shelf and reshelving. After a while, I stamped and added library barcodes to some manga books I had previously looked over, including some of the MAR and Naruto series. Then I taped call numbers to the spines of some manga, veeerry carefully. The last thing I did was peel labels off the old Manga books, so we could put new, snazzy typed ones on.

    Day 6: 12:30-4 PM

I ate lunch at the library today. Then I started typing up some notes on manga I made earlier this month into a sheet of random facts. I then went to help with the manga workshop. It was great! I helped set up and wipe the tables, and then I helped staple the pamphlets and hand them out. Once everyone had gotten what they needed (my manga sheets came in handy!) we all started drawing and coming up with characters. Turns out almost all of us were experienced with manga, so mostly we talked and goofed around while we drew, and picked up a few new tips. It was so much fun!! After the workshop, I helped tidy up, and went back downstairs to put books away and hang out.

    Day 7: 12:30-4 PM

Today I started out by finishing up yesterday’s work log. Then I helped set up for the second part of the manga workshop – the story drawing and developing! There were 3 new people at the workshop today, so while we made our storylines they designed characters. Soon everyone was making panels! I made one, too – I can feel a story brewing… Anyway, after the workshop I helped clean up and put the books we used away. It was a lot of fun; I hope we can get the manga/anime club we suggested going!
