To Our Wonderful Patrons and Community:

To Our Wonderful Patrons and Community:

At 3:30 AM Saturday morning, there was a fire in the library. Nobody was hurt. However the building is severely damaged.

Thank you to our local and neighboring fire departments and police for being so ready and able to help us. We at the library truly appreciate each and every one of you. We really feel the support of all our neighbors and loving community at this time.

We are closed right now, but not for long! We already have a temporary location lined up which will open to the public on Saturday, March 26 th . We will be open for business in the former Maverick West Building, across from the post office at 9 Ava Maria at 10:00am. Letter Friends will be held at its regular time 11:00am.

The library board and staff are grateful to the Town for helping to make this happen in less than a week! This will be a simple operation to start, but, we hope to restore as many services as we can relatively soon. In time, we hope to set up a small lending library and have computers available for public use. If you have library books to return, you may do so that day.

We are so grateful to the community for all of the offers of help, and ask for your continued patience as we land and regroup. Due to temporary storage issues, we ask that you hold on to book donations for now, and we will provide more information on when and where to drop them off. If you are interested in volunteering for a work party let us know: phoenicialibrary@gmail.com

Although we have insurance, our building was old and couldn’t be insured for much, and we have to replace all our computers and most of our books. So, if you’d like to send money, please mail it to the library at P.O. Box 555, Phoenicia, N.Y., use the PayPal button on our web site or money can be dropped off in person (at our new location). We’ll be so happy to see you all!

Library advocate Lawrence Webster has called us the “Little Library that Could” on our Facebook page and we honestly believe that we will be back stronger than ever with everyone’s help. This is truly the community’s library.

Of course we will keep you posted, but for now, we’ll see you Saturday.

If you need to reach us, you can email us at phoenicialibrary@gmail.com .

You are welcome to come on by, visit with us, drop off book or other donations (big book donations should be discussed due to temp. storage issues, call the library's phone number at 845-688-7811 & leave a voice mail) I'll provide info tomorrow on more ways to contribute to the library.

We are looking to set up a temporary location to at the very least pick up and return books. We'll keep posting as we have more updates.

To Our Wonderful Patrons and Community:

At 3:30 AM Saturday morning, there was a fire in the library. Nobody was hurt. We do not yet know the extent of the damage. The cause of the fire is believed to be electrical.

The library is closed. We will reopen as soon as possible. If needs be, we will investigate the possibility of a temporary space in town while repairs are made.

For now, please check our blog, which is linked through the Phoenicia Library homepage (address above) for updates, which will be forthcoming shortly. Patrons can call us at our regular number if the matter is urgent. Be patient as it may take us some time to get back to you.

Thank you to our local and neighboring fire departments and police for being so ready and able to help us. We at the library truly appreciate each and every one of you. We really feel the support of all our neighbors and loving community at this time.

We will be arranging a site for patrons to pickup and return books and other materials shortly.

The Valentine making sessions at the library have been a lot of fun, and the Valentines are gorgeous. Thanks to all the folks who have participated so far. Look for their creations around town and remember if you purchase one you'll not only make your sweetie happy, but you'll be supporting your library too. There are still sessions left. Check out our online calendar for days and times.
